The Ecuador team recently visited the Anchi community for construction of a potable water system. Some pictures from the implementation trip can be found below. While there, the team asked the community how they felt about their water system, and received the video responses found on this page.
The following videos are responses to EWB’s implemented water system. The responses are in Quechua in each video, with translations courtesy of Paulino Sacatorio, a local Centro Educativo La Minga (CELM) representative who EWB-Denver works closely with.
Spanish: Ella dice que no ha tenido presión de agua y va estar agradecido hasta su vida justo es la llave de ella que tenía basura y estaba enojados con su pareja mucho trabajo para no tener flujo de agua en su llave. Pero ya solucione y están felices por su gran trabajo y de equipo de ISF.
English: The woman said she had no water pressure — a source of great frustration — because her faucet was clogged with debris, causing arguments with her husband over the lack of flow. But the new system resolved the issue, and she and her husband are happy with the excellent work done by the EWB team.
Spanish: En este video dice que ella nunca tenía agua en su patio y en envierno valía de agua lluvia y en verano solía buscar de los. Vecinos muchas veces generando problemas por que los vecinos igual ni tenían mucha agua.
English: In this video, this woman says she never had water at her house; in winter she relied on rainwater, and in summer she used to ask the neighbors—often causing problems, since the neighbors didn’t have much water either. (This is an owner whose house was never served by the previous water system. It was just a little too high in elevation. We were able to bring water to her.)
Spanish: Esta casita su propietaria a muerto pero sus hijos quienes están a cargo están muy agradecido por el apoyo.
English: The owner of this little house has passed away, but her children, who are in charge, are very grateful for the support.
Spanish: Mensaje de este video ella está muy agradecida ya que tiene llave de agua con flujo sufiente cuando ella muero para su velorio los hijos buscarán con canecas para su velorio además para su edad esta muy feliz por el apoyo a toda la comidad. Infinitamente agradecido todos los voluntarios y PAMELITA.
English: She is deeply grateful for the water tap that provides sufficient flow; she knows that when she passes away, her children will be able to gather water in containers for her wake. Furthermore, at her age, she is very happy about the support provided to the entire community.
