Tanzania – Positive Community Impact at Bolulambeshi Primary School

EWB recently received an exciting update from our community in Tanzania. With the Phase I and II bathrooms now fully open, girl’s attendance at the school is believed to be at an all-time high. While reliable paper records are not available, anecdotally, staff have stated attendance has been higher this academic year than any year going back to the pandemic. The bathrooms have given the girls a clean and private place to deal with their menstrual cycles, allowing them to attend school during.

Additionally, the Bolulambeshi Primary School finished third out of 27 schools in their ward (district) in school testing in 2024-25. The school historically finishes in the bottom quartile.

While bathroom facilities are not the sole reason for test scores and girls attendance increasing, they have contributed. The local construction committee voted unanimously that they were satisfied with the Phase II project. EWB’s work has helped excite the community to engage around the school with their own projects to support the students.

Completed bathroom facilities at Bolulambeshi Primary School as of November 2025.
